Gazela | Measurement Booth

Bringing human-centered design to the factory floor

Gazela set out to refresh the enclosure of its measurement booths and create a more professional, recognizable product. The project quickly expanded beyond appearance, using design to improve ergonomics, support reliable operation and make the brand’s core qualities more tangible through the product experience.

Opportunity

Use the redesign of Gazela’s measurement booth to identify where design could create additional value by improving operator performance, reliability and usability, while establishing a recognizable product adaptable to different applications.

Solution

A measurement booth designed around repetitive high-frequency use, improving ergonomics for operators performing up to 10,000 cycles per day while reducing opportunities for human error. Its architecture and visual language communicate the core qualities of Gazela’s offer: professional precision protected by a robust, reliable system.

Impact

Since 2022, the design has served as the foundation for Gazela measurement booths across multiple applications and environments.

“We wanted a better booth design, visually. We got a complete transformation. The solution didn’t just look great, but it elevated the user experience through ergonomics on a deeper level.”

Precision is not only a property of the measurement technology

Precision and reliability are central to Gazela’s offer. But once we looked beyond the machine itself and considered the operator as part of the system, it became clear that reliable measurement depends on more than the technology alone.

The way users position parts, read information and interact with the booth also affects consistency and confidence in the process. That expanded the scope of the redesign beyond appearance to include ergonomics, interaction and interface design.

At 10,000+ cycles per day, ergonomics becomes performance

Understanding how the booth is used made the priorities clear. Operators can perform thousands of repetitive cycles per day, so even small inefficiencies and discomforts in reach, posture or information flow can accumulate quickly.

We analysed recurring movements, working positions and points of physical strain, then used secondary research and hands-on mockup testing to define key dimensions and the positioning of interaction points inside the booth.

Measurement results needed to be understood instantly, so the booth uses strong visual feedback across the working area to show pass or fail at a glance. This supports faster operation and makes the process state clear to both operators and supervisors.

Conveying the Gazela promise through the design

With the functional priorities established, the enclosure also had to communicate what Gazela stands for: precision, robustness and professional-grade equipment.

Moodboards, references and association studies helped define the visual direction before the form, composition and CMF were developed further.

The final design expresses a deliberate contrast: a robust outer shell protecting a precise, controlled and highly technical working environment. Lighter surfaces, clear interfaces and exposed technical cues reinforce cleanliness, accuracy and professionalism. The result is a product that does not only perform reliably, but also makes that reliability visible and believable.
